The purpose of this job opening is to generate a list of qualified candidates for inclusion in the Development Coordination Officer /Economist – P4 roster. The entire assessment process takes an average of six months; all applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application (whether successful or unsuccessful) within 14 days of the conclusion of the process. Successful candidates will be placed on the roster and subsequently will be invited to apply for field mission vacancies open only to roster members. Roster membership does not guarantee selection.

AboutUN Development Reformand the newDevelopment Coordination Office
The 2030 Agenda will require bold changes to the UN Development System. As the secretariat to the UN Sustainable Development Group that sets strategic direction for the UN Development System, the new UN DCO will assume a significantly-expanded set of coordination, strategy and managerial responsibilities. Moving out from its current administrative home at UNDP, UN DCO will transition shortly into a new stand-alone coordination office within the UN Secretariat reporting to the Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group.

The position is located in the United Nations Resident Coordination Office (RCO) in multiple countries and typically reports to the Senior Development Officer, Strategic Planning and RCO Team Leader.
Responsibilities
- Plans and facilitates evidence-based Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) analysis, with a focus on macro-economic shifts required to deliver the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in support of a shared understanding by the UN Country Team (UNCT) of sustainable development trends, challenges and opportunities in programme countries
- Provides substantive advice on macro-economic policy to Resident Coordinators (RC) and UNCTs, to inform the CCA, the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), joint programmes and system-wide action for the 2030 Agenda
- Assists the UNCT in the development of a new generation of SDG programmes with a strong investment orientation and focus on acceleration towards achieving the 2030 Agenda

Education
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in economics, sustainable development, public policy, business or public administration, social sciences, education or related area.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
- A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable development policy, economic analysis or project/programme management in the context of development cooperation or related area is required.
Languages
Fluency in English or French is required; knowledge of the other is desirable.
