1. Background
To ensure that police peacekeepers are able to fulfill the mandate to protect civilians and to build the host State police capacity in this regard, the Police Division of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) has developed the United Nations Police Gender Toolkit: Standardized Best Practices on Gender Mainstreaming in Peacekeeping (UNPOL Gender Toolkit).
A contractor is being sought to translate the course materials and assist in the organization of the logistics and administration of training courses.
2. Scope of work
Under the overall supervision of the Gender Affairs Officer and the Chief of the Strategic Policy and Development Section of the Police Division (SPDS)/OROLSI/DPKO, the contractor will:
Activity:
- Translate the following materials into French including ensuring terminology research for relevant United Nations and technical (police; peacekeeping) vocabulary and checking for syntax, expression and grammar for accuracy:
a. Instructor’s Notes (approx. 50,000)
b. Presentation slides (approx. 5,000)
c. Handbook (approx. 80,000)
d. Compendium of Project Tools (approx. 80,000)
e. Compendium of Case Studies (approx. 20,000)
f. Online course: translation of storyboards (script), screen text, text contained in figures, boxed text, captions from the Articulate software. (approx. 100,000)
Copy editing and formatting of various documents according to the United Nations template; (c) assisting in assist in drafting various logistics and administrative documents (i.e. various correspondence)
Assist in the organization of the logistics and administrative preparations for the course including coordination of travel of the travel of participants, procurement process etc.
Note taking during the training course: taking meticulous notes during presentations by instructors; summary of key points from the presentations
Various administrative tasks during the course such as assisting in administering the pre- and post-written test, participant course evaluation survey, sending various correspondence etc.
Any other duties as required.
3. Required competencies
Work experience:Minimum of two years work experience; minimum one year experience in English/French translation;Experience in international peace and security or international development preferable; Prior experience with United Nations preferable.
Minimum education requirement:First level university degree i.e. Bachelor Degree in translation, communication, international studies, gender studies, social science or any related field.
Competencies:Demonstrate effective organizational skills and ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner; Fully proficient in computer skills (MS Office – i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).
Language:Excellent written and oral skills in French and English language.
Duration of consultancy: 9 months
