The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Special Political missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide.
This Internship is located in the Platform Support Unit (PSU) of the Infrastructure and Operations Section (IOS) within the Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies (SGITT) at the at UNGSC in Brindisi, Italy and Valencia, Spain.
The Intern reports to and works under the supervision of the Chief, PSU.
Two (2) positions are available, one (1) in Brindisi, Italy and one (1) in Valencia, Spain.
The PSU/Cloud Services internship is for six (6) months for each position. The Intern is required to work on site.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Chief PSU or other designated officer, the Intern is will be performing the following duties:
• Contribute to the analysis and design of Cloud Services;
• Supports Staff Team working with Virtualization and Containerization technologies;
• Supports Staff Team working on improving Security of Identity Services;
• Contributes to deployments using Infrastructure as a Code solutions and framework;
• Assists Staff Team in managing and optimizing processes of innovative Public/Private Cloud technologies;
• Contributes to evaluating customer use-cases and recommending the appropriate solutions;
• Contribute to embed sustainability into organizations and services to meet one or more of the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Education
Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
• Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
• Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
The Intern is expected to:
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
• Have an interest in contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the use of Information Technology.
• Be computer literate in standard software applications and keen to learn Cloud Technologies.
Work Experience
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
